Sewing Diary: Entry III

Sewing Diary: Entry III

Hello! It’s been awhile since I’ve sat down and wrote about my sewing thoughts and feelings.

Well, most of it is because I haven’t been sewing all that much. I alter almost every pair of pants that comes into the house but it’s the usual adjustments to not being a mannequin. But I'm taking extra steps these last few weeks to take some time to sew.

Sewing is my hobby. Sewing brings me joy (and sometimes stress!) but it typically is a blessing in my life. I’ve decided to start to really start making a effort of sewing for 15 or so minutes on my days off or at least twice a week.

After graduating (…yes in 2020) I was really burnt out from all the rigorous sewing and deadlines (plus a worldwide pandemic) that I had a slight bitter taste in my mouth for it.

Everything had to be perfect or it wasn’t “worth it”. The fit had to be considered or it wasn’t worth the time. My thinking was “I am trained so I have to do it correctly”.

Now, I am in no way saying that I should be throwing all the knowledge out and just sew. But not every garment is going to be graded and not every garment needs to be treated as such. It’s okay, if a dress isn’t the exact right fit…that’s fine. (I’m telling myself this)

Because when I was just starting out it was fun to see all the fabric becoming 3D. I don’t need to hyperfocus on the quality…unless I want to.

For now, I don't have a sewing business.

So, Jewel. It’s time just to get back to sewing because it’s fun and because you like wearing new dresses and have seriously enough fabric to keep you occupied for a while!
