Five years ago today, I shared this make on the ol’ blog. Interestingly enough TaMera and I recently took a few additional pictures to share it with you! Why not today??

With five additional years of sewing and a Fit class under my belt; I now know the darts need to be lowered by an inch or two …possibly even three. The front darts are really high and if I’d make this dress in the future they would need to be lowered.

Other than that, it’s still a really good make…just not wearable on windy days! ;)

A trick I’d like to try is the washer trick. It’s where you sew a washer or some kind of weight into the hem so it doesn’t have the blow-up in the wind effect, we ladies do not enjoy. It’s a trick that a lot of couture houses use and even the royals have them in their skirts.

In the original post “Spring Halt!(er) Top Dress” I styled it with my white denim jacket. Well, that jacket was left in Kansas City over Spring Break…and little did I know that my trip home for Spring Break was going to be lengthened into an extended stay because of Covid-19. (I am no way complaining! I’d much rather be stuck at home then at the apartment.) Anyway, I still have that white denim jacket (still love it) and this blue denim jacket is a recent thrift score.

I thrifted it at Hillcrest Thrift Store while volunteering for a learning Service Project through our Capstone class at school. We dedicated five hours of volunteer service to give back to our community and see the social impacts our degree can have. When I saw the jacket as I was returning clothes to the different racks…I knew it was finally time to add one to my closet.

A blue denim jacket has been on my Thrift List for years!

Hillcrest Thrift Store is a fundraising effort of Hillcrest Transitional Housing.Hillcrest Transitional Housing offers homeless families, singles and youth a disciplined educational program within a caring, supportive environment. Unlike many organizations whose focus is one-time or emergency care, Hillcrest’s primary objective is to move clients from homelessness to self-sufficiency by addressing the total life situation of the homeless families they serve.” To read more and find out how you can support them and their mission HERE.

Visit Hillcrest Thrift Stores in either Lenexa, KS or Lee's Summit, MO, where every purchase goes towards solving homelessness in Kansas City.
