Hi.

“You’re Rad” Radish Card

“You’re Rad” Radish Card

I can’t take credit for this idea — I got it when I saw this cute card on Etsy. But I didn’t have time to wait on an Etsy order so I dragged my scrapbooking/paper crafting supplies out of our hall closet (the same closet that houses our coats, jackets, tools, vacuum, and rice cooker!)

I have a stash of thrifted greeting cards, picked a rather homely one, and covered it with black scrapbook paper. I took two contrasting green floral prints and penciled some radish leaves on the backside — this took more tries than I care to admit for me to get it how I wanted but when I did, I cut them out. (I realized I need a new pair of crafting scissors because my snips weren’t very clean! The scissors I use are 15+ years old and really dull!)

The radish shape came together quickly and I pasted the leaves and radish on the card. It looked cute but unfinished? On a discarded leaf, I had drawn a stem with a black marker and it didn’t look right but I couldn’t get black stems out of my head. With some black paper scraps, I penciled a rough stem outline and cut it out — those first two rough outlines were the ones I ended up using!

The purpose of the contrasting paper on the left side was to cover up the original text from this repurposed card. The pinkish-red is the same as the radish, and the green striped floral is the same as the back middle leaf.

Bad food puns are my jam (pun intended) so I had to go with “You’re RAD”. BUT I intentionally left it off the front of the card so it could be used as decoration without being too…corny… (okay, okay, I’m done!)

Thanks for reading — you’re pretty rad too!
